Georgetown KY Is Growing Fast. Is Your Business Marketing Keeping Up?

Georgetown Is Not a Small Town Anymore

Anyone who has driven through Georgetown in the last three years has noticed what is happening. New subdivisions off Cherry Blossom Way. New retail along the Connector. Toyota continuing to expand. The Scott County school system is one of the fastest growing in the state.

Georgetown is not a sleepy small town sitting in the shadow of Lexington anymore. It is a growing city with a population that has real purchasing power and increasingly high expectations for the businesses they choose to give their money to.

And yet the marketing from most Georgetown small businesses has not kept up. They are still relying on word of mouth from the same network they built in 2015. They are posting to Facebook once every three weeks. They have a website that looks like it was built during the Obama administration.

The businesses that figure this out now while Georgetown is still in the middle of its growth curve are going to be in a very different position five years from now than the ones who wait.

The New Residents Are Looking Online First

Here is the dynamic that makes this so important to understand. Georgetown's new residents do not have established local relationships yet. They do not have a mechanic they trust or a dentist they have been going to for ten years or a landscaper who has taken care of their yard through three different owners.

They are starting from scratch in a new community. And when they need something, the very first thing they do is search Google or ask in a local Facebook group.

This means that right now, today, there are people moving into Georgetown every week who are forming their local business relationships for the first time. Whoever shows up first in that search and looks credible is going to get the business.

That is an enormous opportunity that a lot of Georgetown businesses are completely invisible for.

What Winning in Georgetown Actually Looks Like

The businesses doing this right in the Scott County area are not necessarily spending a lot of money on marketing. They are doing a few specific things consistently.

They have a Google Business Profile that is completely filled out and regularly updated. They have photos that actually show their work, their team, or their location. They are actively responding to reviews and generating new ones.

Their website mentions Georgetown specifically. It mentions Scott County. It might reference the Toyota campus or the proximity to the interstate. It talks about the communities they serve in language that feels local because it is local.

When they do run paid ads, those ads are geographically tight. They are not trying to reach all of Central Kentucky. They are targeting Georgetown, Stamping Ground, Sadieville, and the areas directly around them.

The Window Is Not Going to Stay Open Forever

The opportunity that exists in Georgetown right now is a function of the growth curve. When a city is in the middle of expanding rapidly, the businesses that move first build relationships and reputations that are very difficult to displace later.

Five years from now, those new residents will have their preferred local businesses. The contractors they trust. The restaurants they go back to. The service providers they refer to their neighbors.

The businesses that get in front of them now, while they are still forming those preferences, will be the ones who end up on the other side of that referral.

Georgetown is at that moment right now. The businesses that recognize it and act on it are going to look very smart in a few years.
